770x470_blog_seasonedskillet_linda‘Seasoned Skillets’  is our blog series designed to showcase the Skilljar team behind the business. These folks (aka Skillets) are developing, designing, writing, calling, measuring, analyzing, and more to propel Skilljar forward as a market leader in the customer education industry. Next up, Linda!

How did you hear about Skilljar?

I first met Sandi years ago when Skilljar was in its infancy. Later, I also had a few former colleagues who joined the Skilljar team. I was already working in the customer onboarding and education industry so I jumped at the chance to work for a company that focused on problems directly related to my role and my passion.

What does your role here entail?

My role at Skilljar has changed and evolved over time, but I currently lead the Product Marketing function. My role spans programs like Sales Enablement, Messaging, Product Launches, and Evangelism.

What advice would you give someone getting into SaaS product marketing?

Maybe this is predictable based on my education background, but I’d say my best advice is to always look for learning opportunities. We’re in an extremely innovative environment so there is always an opportunity to try something, learn from your experience, and figure out how to tackle your job in the best way.

What makes someone successful in product marketing at Skilljar?

Successful Skillets live by our values – they lead with a data-driven mindset and use that mindset to collaborate, debate, and problem-solve; they put the customer first and they aren’t afraid to step up to the plate!

Skilljar is a fast-paced, rapidly changing place. What’s your advice for navigating (and excelling) in the startup environment?

Be flexible! Everything about Skilljar exudes flexibility – from the agile methodology we use to develop our product, to changing systems, processes, and roles. Find your niche, but prepare for shifting priorities.

Favorite Skilljar perk?

Company lunches on Wednesdays – I love that everyone takes the hour every week to come together and get to know each other better.

How do you manage your work/life balance?

Ruthless prioritization and constantly evaluating what the most important thing I can be working on is. My manager in my first job after college had all new hires read “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People,” and the Urgent-Important Matrix stuck with me ever since.

Favorite place to visit in Seattle?

I love going to Grandview Park in SeaTac. It’s a great way to spend the afternoon with the dogs and the family and the view is truly grand!

If you were going to offer a course online, what would it be about?

How to build a great Customer Education program!
