[Webinar Recap] Data-Driven Customer Training

Skilljar's own Linda Schwaber-Cohen, Head of Training, and Sara Robba, Customer Success Manager, hosted a webinar on December 6th discussing Skilljar's findings from our Customer Training Completion Rates study and the implications of those findings for the training industry. To those of you who listened in, thank you for your participation and feedback. If you were unable to join us, here is a brief recap of what we covered, as well as a link to download the full recording.

First we discussed completion rates over time. Our study showed that 35% of students completed training courses within the first 7 days. Essentially, the first 7 days after beginning a course is a key time for training managers to engage with the learners and keep them interested in order to optimize completion rates. 

The best way to encourage learners to complete a training course within the first week is with remarketing. Your initial marketing strategy focused on getting learners to sign up or register for the training course, but remarketing is focused on pulling learners back into the course and encouraging them to actually complete the training once they have already begun it. Sara shared a couple of tips for effective remarketing and how LMS integrations can make the entire remarketing process automated and fairly low-maintenance. 

Next we discussed session times. Our data showed a significant drop-out rate on courses that exceeded 30 minutes. In response to those statistics, Linda shared a few suggestions on how to trim down training and break it up into small, digestible modules. 

Finally, we discussed how SCORM training lessons perform compared to video training. There was a significant difference in completion rates between courses that included video content compared to those that included SCORM. 

Throughout this interactive webinar, we asked our listeners to send in suggestions for future research questions to explore. Here are some of the recommendations we received for future studies:

  • What is the optimal amount of lessons per course?
  • What is the ideal video length for optimal completion?
  • An analysis of video by video type
